Bringing Pets to El Salvador

El Salvador requires that you obtain an import permit for your pet from the Animal Quarantine Department in San Salvador, the cost is $4.

Have your veterinarian complete the El Salvador veterinary certificate stating that your pet is healthy and free of parasites and free of any diseases communicable to humans.

Pet dogs more than three months of age must be vaccinated against distemper parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parainfluenza. not less than 30 days prior to travel and not more than 12 months prior to travel. The veterinarian will indicate on the rabies certificate the date of the vaccination, product name and serial number.

Cats must be vaccinated against panleukopenia not less than 30 days prior to travel and not more than six months prior to travel.

The health certificate must be issued by a licensed veterinarian not more than 10 days prior to departure.

Attach the rabies certificate to the veterinary certificate and send to the El Salvador Consulate for validation.

Upon arrival in El Salvador you will have to present the veterinary certificate that was validated by the El Salvador consulate, the rabies certificate and the import permit.
